Click here for Program Schedule 24 Hour Higher Education Channel The development in the Science have revolutionized information and communication technology. The most important development among theses has been compression technology. This has enabled carrying of several channels in one transponder. With the advent of multi channel carrier not entertainment and news but several other programmes can also be seen .In the education sector Gyan Darshan is one such channel .The advantages of having such channel is that education can reach to large number of viewers across millions of house-holds .The knowledge and information gap which exists due to lack of communication in remote places gets bridged to a great extent through this mode .With the mission to carry knowledge to households and students, teachers and public to bridge the knowledge and information gap and to provide the same quality of higher education to all a separate channel on higher education is being launched today,26th January 2004 by Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi, Hon'ble Minister for Human Resource Development .this will be momentous day in the history of higher education communication. Mission The first mission of this channel would be to find out knowledge need of the people through research and address the same by developing "knowledge resources" with the help and support of research facilities available in the universities and colleges of the country. The second mission is to bridge this gap making quality knowledge packages delivered by the best teacher available and those too everyone who desires to benefit from it. The third mission of the channel is to make knowledge free and seamlessly available to all those who need it. Approach The channel will be students- friendly .It will function in a manner that a student could register for a certificate, diploma or a degree level programme. It would be so organized that it maintains the sequencing of the lessons in this effort, the 24 hour Channel would enter into specific arrangements with several mix-mode learning programmes currently being offered by many Indian Universities centers. Apart from being a subject-specific channel it would also beam programmers of motivational nature, general awareness and should aim at building the horizon of students and teachers alike .These programmes will focus on India for the World, Guru Devo Bhava, Hall of Inspiration, Women Empowerment, Widening Horizons, Window to the World and Contemporary Issues. Survey on 24 Hour Channel A quick survey was conductd in the month of December,2003 by the CEC with the help of Media Centres across the country for 24 hour Higher Education Channel.Out of 481 sample students whose responses have been tabulated. More than 75% students preferred focused approach programmes like Guru Devo Bhava: Life and work of eminent teachers; Hall of inspiration ;Student days Patents of India, Young Achievers ;Women Empowerment ;Widen the Horizon which includes India for the World, Heritage India, Nature and People of India; Window to the World with Contemporary Issues. While 87% students liked programmes on Hall of Inspiration, almost 90% of the students wanted programmes on widen the Horizon and Window to the World. Fix Point Chart With the above thrust in view the channel will have the following band approach on various days to promote the learning and also to facilitate the viewers to remember the same for viewing the programmes:
