The Objectives

The CEC stands committed to make India become a knowledge “society. To achieve this goal it seeks to enrich, educate and enlighten’ its audience-a goal it had set to achieve since its inception with twin objectives: 1. providing model university lectures and 2, enrichment programme addressed to all those interested in learning new things. The enrichment programs have a tremendous variety and depth suit all kinds of academic and informed taste.

 On the one hand it continues to handling classroom situation with subject-wise approach (organizing courses in terms of lectures as granules, series of lectures as unit, and series of units as modules and finally series of modules as course ware), on the other it is thinking of introducing such programs that only few universities or institutions in the country have thus far thought of introducing. Prospective programs are going to cover :E-learning, Up-gradation of technology, W.T.O. Patenting, Copyrights, Women/Gender issues, Career watch and Innovations in education, management and in other fields

 Knowledge Repository

 Today, the number of programs available with the CEC for broadcast is more than 13,000. The number of subject-areas covered is 49. A list of syllabus-based model lessons is available in 47 academic areas. Two subject-areas (Political Science and Economics) whose Syllabus-based Model lessons were ready, have also received quality control certification as well.

Video Lectures

The completed Model Course Video-Lecture Series, covers following areas. The number of lesson available in each area is as follows: 1. Sociology 405; 2. Mathematics 313; 3. Psychology 300; 4. Political Science 188; 5. Home Science 220; 6. Commerce 240; 7. Economics 25; 8. History 306; 9. Physics 133; 10. Botany 32.

Enrichment Knowledge

Besides Model Course Video Lectures enrichment programs the guiding principles of which are: a) to cover various fields of knowledge; b) to take viewers beyond textbooks and lecture regimen; c) to make learning an enjoyable experience and d) kindle a desire to explore.

Subject Areas

The academic areas covered under subject-oriented programs include Electronic Communication, Geography, Geology, Education, Home Science, Public Administration, History, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Archeology and Ancient History, Psychology, Issues related to important days e.g. United Nations’ Day, Women’s Day, Children’s Day, etc., Commerce, Physics, Hindi Literature, Sanskrit, Hindi and other languages, Infrastructure development e.g. roads, Telecommunications and Transport etc., Mountains, Space Technology, Agriculture e.g. animal husbandry, irrigation etc., social occasions of the region, waterways, Education e.g. sex education, adult education, adolescents, Traditional medicines, e.g. Ayurveda, Naturopathy, etc., General Science topics like Why is sky blue? Or cloud formation etc.

This list provides information about the programs prepared in all the subjects mentioned above. In History to illustrate the program covers all papers, for instance, Paper 1 has 4 lectures on historiography. Paper 2 is Ancient Indian History and the number of topics dealt with here is 64. the medievals Indian history Paper 3 is highly specialized. Few universities in India teach it. Paper 4 is Modern Indian History. Paper 5 deals with Modern World History (Modern Europe). Paper 6 is about Great Britain. Paper 7 cover Modern Asia. We continue to consider History as an enrichment program. We all know that art and architecture constitutes an important segment of History. This segment has more than 50 programs on various types and forms of architecture. Archeology is another branch that has received scholars’ attention.

CEC has an excellent series of programs on Education too that have both relevance and sweep rarely found elsewhere. A mere glance at some of the titles would endorse this observation. It  starts with An Agenda for Education-an interview with the Union Minister, about the priorities in education, as he perceived then. There are programs on the Nature of Teaching with special reference to Social Sciences, Nature of Learning , study skills, plan your lecture, besides one that defines Teaching per se. Then there is a program on Learning to Be, an interview with a well-known teacher, who explains how education and learning are considered almost synonyms, while they are ever so different. One should feel interested in the series titled: Integral Pedagogy Process 1-4, which deals with themes like context, experience, overview, action & evaluation, reflection and learning. Then one comes across a program that deals with the theoretical aspects of learning, besides several others that teach about learning through computers.

Future Strategies

There are several excellent programs that explains the content and nature of future studies, education for equality, vocational education / training, distance education, education technology, computers in distance education, downloading, information technology, children and television, education through television, learning outdoor, experimental education, career guidance courses, guidance and counseling, values education (the ideals, the practice, and reaching out), teaching techniques, teacher education in India, etc.

Higher Educations

There are several well-prepared programs that talk about higher education and issues in higher education like financing, accountability, accreditation, NAAC, and interviews with some well-known teachers in higher education both from within and without, besides themes like health education, adult education, computer science courses, multimedia, e-learning, books in electronic age, internet, networks a classroom from skies, media in formal and non-formal education, teaching shops and bazaar notes, etc. There is an instructive series on various disabilities and the challenged children. Besides the institutions that deal with visually challenged children, there is a series that deals with the methods of teaching such children titled: visual impairment 1-5, deaf, and the mentally challenged there is a very interesting and illuminating series titled: Bharati Krishna Tirtha’s System of Vedic Mathematics 1-5. In brief, the enrichment programs have tremendous variety and depth and therefore they most certainly deserve to be widely read and enjoyed.

 

Program in Hindi

W
hile all the above-mentioned programs are in English, there are quite a few quality programs on Education in Hindi. The first program in the list is on the importance of higher education. The next program deals with all aspects / branches of higher education such as commerce, medical, engineering, architecture etc. A three-part program on admissions, teaching curriculum, extra-curriculum activities, election and evaluation is also ready for transmission, besides another that deals with other components of higher education such as research, etc. For teacher trainers there is one program entitled: Models of Teaching-a concept popular in the USA. A program explains Gandhi’s concept of Basic education. Then a program deals with communication channels for students. A programs dealing with the Rajasthan’s success story in non-formal education called Lok Jumbish is also available. Education through Art, Why Environment Education? And, a five-part program on integrated education is the other highlight in the list already mentioned

Consortium for Educational Communication has seven Educational Media Research Centre (EMRC) at Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Madurai, Pune and Mass Communication Research Centre at New Delhi and ten Audio visual Research Centre (AVRC) at Calicut Chennai, Hyderabad, Imphal, Indore, Mysore, Patiala, Roorkee, Srinagar and Sagar, as its members: the above programmes have been produced by these Media Centre.
